Esther An
Chief Sustainability Officer, City Development Limited

A pioneer in CSR and sustainability in Singapore for over two decades, Esther has been instrumental in establishing City Developments Limited’s sustainability leadership, stakeholder engagement, reporting and green financing initiatives. A forerunner in embracing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Esther was recognized as the 2018 SDG Pioneer for Green Infrastructure and A Low Carbon Economy by the UN Global Compact(UNGC).

She sits on board several organisations including Global Compact Network Singapore Management Committee, World Green Building Council Corporate Advisory Board, UNEP Finance Initiative Real Estate Group and GRI Corporate Leadership Group for Integrated Reporting.

As the founder of the Women4Green Network, Esther is committed to engaging and empowering women to drive sustainable practices at home, at work and at play.

Staying true to the SDG spirit of building sustainable cities and communities, she spearheaded the establishment of the zero energy Singapore Sustainability Academy which has become a hub for networking and capacity building for climate action, sustainability developments and partnership across the stakeholder ecosystem both locally and globally.

Isabel Chatterton, PhD,

Manager, Asia Pacific Public Private Partnerships Transaction Advisory Services, International Finance Corporation

Isabel is the Regional Manager for PPP Transaction Advisory Services, Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. Isabel joined IFC advisory in June 2012 as South Asia regional manager for PPP transaction advisory, after spending 4 years in IFC’s Subnational Finance unit where she worked in deal origination, structuring and supervision of debt and structured finance products in more than six countries in LAC.

Before joining IFC, Isabel held various positions in World Bank operations in the urban sector in the Middle East and North Africa region, the water sector in Latin America, and the transport, power and urban sector in South Asia.

Before joining the World Bank in 2001, Isabel worked in emerging markets and Western Europe for WS Atkins in the UK as Senior Management Consultant; working on infrastructure finance and public private partnerships in infrastructure in Thailand, Argentina, Barbados, Qatar, the UK, and Europe. Clients included the Office of the Regulation of Electricity and Gas in the UK, the Water Commissioner for Scotland, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture in Qatar, Ministry of Finance in Thailand, Ministry of Economy, Works and Public Services in Argentina, Barbados Water Authority, The European Commission, National Economic and Social Development Board in Thailand, the European Commission DGIII (Eastern and Western Europe), the UK Department of Trade and Industry, the UK Water Services Regulation Authority, and the Romanian Highways Authority.

STEAM – Platform of Transformation-Youth Leadership Towards SDGs 2030

Dr Lerwen Liu specializes in business development (including strategic marketing, partnerships, fund raising, stakeholder management and more) with technical expertise in fields of nanomaterials, additive manufacturing, solar cells, IoT, nanosatellites and other emerging technologies with applications in functional/green materials and manufacturing, space, agribusiness, environment and health care. She is known to be one of the most connected people with network relationships in government, universities, industry/business sectors and NGOs in the Asia Pacific, Europe, USA and beyond.

Since 2014, Dr Liu became a strong advocate of sustainability through innovation & entrepreneurship education and training focusing in Asian region. In particular, she pioneered an innovative STEAM Platform (www.steamplatform.org) focusing on building youth leadership in Asia towards the transformation of smart circular economy and creating innovative solutions for SDGs2030.

Lerwen is currently a senior advisor at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT in Bangkok) playing a strategic leadership role in 1) streamlining strategy of education, research & innovation and social impact towards sustainable development goals, industry 4.0 and circular economy, 2) building strategic partnerships with the United Nations & Asia Development Bank, leading universities, government funding agencies and industries worldwide in developing solutions for reaching SDGs and circular economy, and 3) conducting strategic training to KMUTT students and staff preparing the change agents/leaders for the SDGs and circular economy. Her STEAM Platform, which is based in KMUTT and rapidly growing its global impact, distinguishes itself with 2 main characteristics: 1) integrating Industry 4.0 with Bio, Circular & Green Economy & Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs2030) and 2) Experiential & Peer to Peer youth leadership building.

She has taught, since 2015, graduate modules (Management of Technology Program) at in NUS on Corporate Entrepreneurship and High-tech Business Model where she incorporates Sustainability and SDGs into business model design and goals.

Yeo Lian Sim

Special Adviser Diversity

At the Singapore Exchange (SGX) Lian Sim has led the introduction of sustainability reporting for listed companies, focused on opportunities and risk management. Reporting was first voluntary in 2011 and now a ‘comply or explain’ rule effective end 2017. Lian Sim also participates as a Vice Chair of the FSB’s Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosure.

Lian Sim was previously Chief Risk and Regulatory Officer, with responsibilities relating to listed companies, member brokers and trading surveillance. Risk management covered financial risk of clearing and settlement and oversight of enterprise risk.

Before joining SGX, Lian Sim’s career was at the Monetary Authority of Singapore in various roles. She is a graduate of the University of Singapore and the London Business School.

Bree Miechel

Bree has lived in Asia for over 15 years and is a specialist projects and construction lawyer and partner of international law firm Reed Smith.

She advises on renewable and conventional power, energy efficiency, oil and gas, transport and water and waste, and commercial development projects worldwide. She is recognised as a thought leader in clean energy and leads a work stream for the IRENA and TWI Open Solar Contracts initiative to accelerate the deployment of solar PV globally.

Bree is ranked by Asia Legal Business 2018 as one of the most outstanding legal professionals in the region who are under the age of 40 and is recognised by IFLR1000 2019 as a “Highly Regarded” project development practitioner. She was shortlisted by Euromoney Asia Women in Business Legal Awards 2017 and 2018 as Best in Energy and Natural Resources.
